Awad Absin

Sudanese musician, Awad Absin, started his musical journey at four years old when he began making drums out of milk tins, pots and sauce pans. He then made his first riq (a type of traditional Arabic tambourine) and started to sing folk songs.  His family were soon encouraging him to sing and play at social gatherings and celebrations.

When only seven, he composed the music for a school rhyme was then appointed his school’s official singer and has never looked back! He has been performing professionally for almost 30 years.

Awad honed his oud skills with the help of masters such as Ali Hassan (Iraq) and Nizar Rohana (Palestine) .Apart from his solo performances, Awad also performs with his own band performing at Sudanese weddings and other functions.  He is currently recording a CD which celebrates old Sudanese folk songs.
